Charles Wight

Water Data Consultant

Charles Wight joined EPIC as a consultant in November 2023, bringing over a decade of experience in environmental science across NGO, academic, and development sectors. His expertise spans geo-spatial science, freshwater conservation, nature-based solutions (NbS), and conservation economics. Charles has worked as a consultant, researcher, and project manager, including his role as a Global Freshwater Scientist at The Nature Conservancy before completing his PhD at the University of Oxford. He also holds a master’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin, where he developed an environmental vulnerability index to assess dam impacts in the Amazon basin, and a dual bachelor’s degree in Geography and Philosophy, also from UT Austin. As a consultant, Charles has worked with USAID, International Rivers, InfoAmazonia, The World Bank, and The Strauss Center for International Security and Law. His research has been published in Nature, World Development, Ecological Economics, and Environmental Research Letters.

Born and raised in Texas, I've spent much of my adult life abroad. I'm passionate about water sports, especially swimming and canoeing, and I’m also an avid cyclist. When not working, I enjoy woodworking, baking, and gardening.
